Lucy Hart, MSc, CCPE, WELL AP is the Director, Workplace Ergonomics and Well-being for ergoCentric. She engages influencers and decision-makers to understand the relationship between ergonomics, well-being and the built environment, provides strategic guidance and technical leadership throughout the furniture life cycle and actively contributes to standards development. Lucy chairs both the CSA Z412 Office Ergonomics Technical Committee and BIFMA Ergonomics Subcommittee. She is also a Member of the WELL Movement Concept Advisory and the IWH Educationally Influential Ergonomist Network.
Abstract:
BIFMA sponsors the development and maintenance of furniture safety and durability standards. Until recently, there hasn’t been a formalized mechanism for customers to know if the furniture products they are specifying and/or purchasing have been tested to these standards. In the first quarter of 2021, BIFMA launched BIFMA Compliant, which is a product registry that brings together standards and conformance. The intent of BIFMA Compliant is to enable customers to reliably identify products that comply with relevant BIFMA safety and durability standards. Although the BIFMA G1-2013 Ergonomics Guideline is not included in the registry at this time, conformity assessments to the dimensions and adjustment ranges are included in the BIFMA Product Conformance Requirements.
