SUMMARY:This webinar will elaborate on the new science behind active workstations. Three studies have been conducted at the Occupational Performance Laboratory/Laboratoire de Performance Occupationnelle, to further understand the biomechanical and physiological demands of using active chairs and sit-to-stand workstations. Research on the ergonomic benefits of active workstations at the workplace is in its infancy, especially for active chairs, as they are relatively new to the market. Based on Cardoso et al.’s research findings, the webinar will elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages of using active workstations.

BIOS: Dr. Michelle Cardoso is an assistant professor at l’Université de Moncton. Dr. Cardoso has been investigating the science of sitting since 2010. She has investigated professional drivers, such as bus drivers (Albert et al. 2014) and police officers (Cardoso et al. 2017; a & b) and investigated various industrial seat design including truck seats (Cardoso et al. 2017 and 2018) and airplane seats (Wang et al. 2019). The natural progression of investing static sitting has been active sitting, and since 2018, Dr. Cardoso has been investigating the science behind active workstations in the office work environment.
