At the recent IEA Triennial Conference, several of our members were recognized with awards and appointments. Dr. Jim Potvin was awarded the IEA Triennial Outstanding Educators Award in recognition of his 24 years of teaching at McMaster University, and his current online teaching of ergonomics for the Center for Occupational & Environment Health at the University of California - Berkeley. Jim researches and teaches primarily in the areas of biomechanics and the ergonomics of musculoskeletal injuries. He has supervised over 70 graduate students. Jim also co-chairs the IEA technical committee “Ergonomics in Manufacturing”. Dr. Ian Noy was awarded the IEA President’s Award. As chairman of the organizing committee for the 2021 IEA Triennial Conference, Ian worked tirelessly to bring about a successful virtual event. Pivoting the program from a live event to an online event presented numerous challenges, and ultimately 3 virtual platforms were used. About 1260 registrants attended, and about 900 presentations were given. Those who benefited from Ian’s work organizing the conference will agree the President’s Reward was richly deserved. Dr. Sadeem Qureshi was awarded the K. U. Smith Student Award. Sadeem completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2012 at NED University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan. He subsequently did a Master of Quality Systems Engineering at Concordia University (2014) and a Doctorate in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University (2020). His research area is Human Factors and Healthcare Ergonomics. Sadeem has been the Regional Representative for ACE Ontario since 2017. In addition, he was the Early Career Research Committee Coordinator for IEA 2021. Dr. Nancy Black was appointed chair for the Scientific Technology and Practice Standing Committee, which promotes and coordinates the exchange of scientific and technical information at the international level. Nancy is a professor at the University of Moncton. If you know of someone who deserves recognition through ACE, please feel free to send details to info@ace-ergocanada.ca
